Mid-Size Markets, Full-Size Football

Welcome to the Blood 'n Guts Football universe - a pro league with a linked college league that allows GMs to follow a player from raw high school graduate to professional stardom and beyond. The BnG football universe began play in 1966 with teams in mid-size markets (populations between 100,000 and 300,000) with completely fictional players and coaches. The finances are set up to reflect 1960s-era economics, but there is a salary cap which will grow modestly over time- the cap began at $10 million and is at the start of the 1968 season now $10.8 million, with the minimum player salary $20,000.

Blood 'n Guts Pro League uses Front Office Football 2007 from Solecismic to simulate the rigors of professional football from cap and roster management to gameplanning. Grey Dog Software's Bowl Bound does the same (except for the cap part) for the world of top-level collegiate football. BnG is the best of both worlds.

Katzman is #1 Pick

VEGAS TAPS COUGAR SIGNAL CALLER

Bryan Katzman

Quarterback Bryan Katzman of the University of Houston Cougars was tapped by the Las Vegas Roadrunners as the #1 overall pick of the 1967 Rookie Draft. Katzman was a four-year starter for the Cougars and finished his career with 8187 yards passing and 69 touchdowns against 23 interceptions. His QB rating as a collegian was 145.3 (NCAA rating) and he completed 58.9 percent of his passes. Katzman can also run, something he did 481 times over his Cougars career, but in recent seasons the Cougars pro-style offense has limited his carries (he carried 195 times as a freshman, but only 94 times as a senior).

A pro scout, speaking on condition of anonymity praised Katzman's skill set, saying, "While his numbers aren't as eye-popping as some of the other quarterbacks in this year's class, Kaztman has the size and more importantly, the brains to run a pro offense. He'll be an outstanding professional and almost certainly the best to come out of this particular draft class." The fact that Houston runs a pro-style offense can only help Katzman as he will try to adjust to the speed and size of professional defenses.

Garner Has Season For The Ages

FLINT'S GARNER AN AERIAL ARTIST

Mack Garner

Flint wide receiver Mack Garner had a season for the ages in 1966. The fifth-year man out of Florida State was the franchise's first pick in the allocation draft and the team couldn't have gotten anything more out of Garner. Garner's 1966 season was the most dominating individual performance by any player in the entire league; only the fact that his team struggled overall kept him from receiving the nod as the Player of the Year.

Garner recorded 125 receptions for a staggering 2438 yards and 20 touchdowns. Targeted 209 times overall - 32.9 percent of all passes by Flint quarterbacks - Garner dropped only 5 passes and piled up 694 yards after the catch. Garner recorded 14, that's right: 14 - mentions for Player of the Week, led the league in receptions by 27 and in yards by 917 to set himself so far above every other receiver as to make them all look pedestrian in comparison.
